The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) has launched its inaugural #SGJewelleryNow exhibition, showcasing contemporary Singaporean jewellery design.
Following the conclusion of the #SGFashionNow exhibition, which highlighted local fashion designers, ACM now focuses on our nation’s jewellery artisans. This exhibition runs from June 27 to September 1, and admission is free.
Highlighting Singaporean Jewellery Design
#SGJewelleryNow features six pieces from three Singaporean designers and jewellery houses: Edmond Chin, State Property, and Foundation Jewellers. Each designer presents works that reinterpret Southeast Asian heritage and demonstrate their craftsmanship.
Kennie Ting, outgoing director of ACM and the Peranakan Museum, commented on the new exhibition. “With #SGJewelleryNow, we hope to start small but work with as many of our jewellery designers as possible in the years to come, spotlight the diversity and dynamism in this area, as well as better understand the jewellery design landscape in Singapore and Singapore jewellery designers’ impact abroad,” he stated.
Featured Designers and Their Contributions
Edmond Chin

Edmond Chin, a Hong Kong-based Singaporean designer, is known for his work in high jewellery. His showcased piece is a bangle made from antique shell bracelets originally worn by the Dayak people of Borneo. These bracelets have been cut and reassembled to feature a 100-carat industrial diamond with a wood-grain pattern. Chin’s collection of Straits Chinese jewellery is a significant part of ACM’s jewellery gallery, reflecting his commitment to heritage and contemporary design.
Foundation Jewellers

Foundation Jewellers, known for their modern interpretations of Peranakan jewellery, contributes an identical version of their Bird of Paradise brooch. The original piece, gifted to the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2012, was frequently worn by her, showcasing the brand’s craftsmanship. Caroline Tay, co-owner, sees the museum showcase as a way for younger generations to learn about Peranakan jewellery, a style once seen as too ornate by some.
State Property

State Property, a younger label founded by Lin Ruiyin and Afzal Imram, presents the Spade Warisan Emerald Signet Ring. This piece, inspired by ACM’s archives and crafted from 18K yellow gold with a baguette-cut emerald, features hand-carved floral motifs reflecting Javanese combs from the late 19th century. The brand, known for its East-meets-West aesthetic, has attracted attention from notable figures like Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga.
Implications for the Jewellery Industry
The launch of #SGJewelleryNow highlights the growing recognition of Singaporean jewellery design both locally and internationally. By featuring established designers alongside emerging talents, ACM is fostering an understanding of the craftsmanship and cultural significance of Singaporean jewellery. This initiative highlights the heritage of Southeast Asian jewellery and encourages younger generations to explore careers in the creative and design fields.
