Singapore has taken a significant step in strengthening its trade relations with Italy by hosting the first dedicated Italian Pavilion at the 19th edition of the Singapore International Jewelry Expo (SIJE) 2024.
The event, held at the Sands Expo Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands, was organised by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Opening Ceremony and Key Figures
The opening ceremony featured prominent figures including Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth; His Excellency Mr Dante Brandi, Ambassador of Italy to Singapore and Brunei; and Mr Giorgio Calveri, Trade Commissioner, ITA Singapore. The event underscored Singapore’s commitment to fostering strong business relationships and enhancing commercial ties with Italy and the ASEAN region.
Italian Pavilion Highlights
The Italian Pavilion featured 14 master jewellers from Italy, providing a platform to showcase their craftsmanship and designs. This initiative aims to boost Italian and European exports to Singapore and the broader ASEAN region, reinforcing Singapore’s status as a jewellery hub.
Among the exhibitors were brands such as Leonori, Massimo Raiteri, Ora d’Italia, and Zydo, bringing the total number of Italian brands at SIJE 2024 to more than 20. These brands, known for their collections, have been consistent participants at the expo, enhancing the event’s European presence.
Facilitating Business Opportunities
To support the expansion of Italian jewellers within the region, ITA brought 19 buyers from countries including Australia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. These buyers were connected with the Italian companies at the pavilion, fostering business opportunities and networking.
Market Insights and Export Growth
A report by Euromonitor International in January 2024 indicated that jewellery sales are expected to grow in both retail volume and value, despite economic challenges. Italy’s jewellery exports to Singapore reached notable levels in 2023, making Italy the second-largest jewellery exporter to Singapore among EU countries.
“Italy’s unwavering commitment to excellence in the jewellery industry and its deep connection with the discerning tastes of the Singaporean market are well-known. Italy’s legacy of exceptional jewellery design, coupled with the growing demand for our creations in the Singapore market, is testament to the unparalleled quality and authenticity of our products,” stated Mr Dante Brandi, Ambassador of Italy to Singapore and Brunei.
Future Prospects
The Italian Trade Agency, along with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, organised both the Italian Pavilion and an Italian Lounge to facilitate B2B meetings. These settings aim to enhance commercial prospects for Italian companies and solidify Italy’s presence in Southeast Asia’s luxury market.
“The Singapore International Jewelry Expo (SIJE) epitomises the convergence of global luxury and innovation. Italy’s presence highlights our longstanding commitment to setting the standard in jewellery design, blending heritage and tradition with contemporary flair,” said Mr Giorgio Calveri, ITA Singapore. “We invite you to explore the artistry and sophistication that define Italian jewellery. Let us seize this opportunity to forge new connections, share insights, and celebrate the passion that drives our industry forward.”
